Relaxation techniques such as Progressive Relaxation can reduce stress symptoms and help you enjoy a better quality of life. The word “relax” has its origin in the Latin word “relaxare” which means “to loosen”. When we practice relaxation techniques we are in effect loosening tension, releasing tightly held energy and letting go. Progressive Relaxation is a way of releasing stress by consciously relaxing various parts of the body until the entire body is relaxed. Practicing relaxation techniques regularly provides many benefits including:

- Decreased blood pressure
- Increased energy
- More restful sleep
- A calm emotional state
- Reduced anger and frustration
- Improved concentration
- Heightened problem-solving abilities
